This may not be the most interesting photo to share with you. But it represents a bit of a miracle in our house.
This is washing-up done by Miss M.
A rather ugly battle took place before this washing-up happened.
A battle that I won.
Yay for Mummy!!!

P.S. all hints and tips on how to deal with stroppy 12 year-olds gratefully received :-)
Hi Karen
ReplyDeleteI'm also the mother of a 12 year old Miss, and I hear my Mum's voice in my head when things get a bit tricky: "love her even more"!! Easy to say, but it's rather lovely advice : -)
Take away or withhold a favourite something, or not cooperate when she wants something like a lift to a friend's. I have survived 12 yo Misses three times now, but am still no nearer to the answer of getting them to pull their weight without resorting to battles :o
ReplyDeleteI tell my daughter that if she can't be bothered to help with chores, then she also should not be bothered to spend time with friends. This works every time as she is very social and lives for her friends. She is very good at pulling her weight now because she knows if she doesn't, she won't be leaving the house.
ReplyDeleteYAY!!! It's the small victories that count :) I think 12 was more difficult than 2!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your lovely advice mummies! It's good to know I'm not the only one!! I have been VERY HARD since my post and she has been much better - let's hope it continues when she goes back to school tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteNow for some crochet...
